Becoming the Women That We Deserve to Be!
My name is René Nelson and I am a current breast cancer survivor. 1 in 8 women (about 12.4%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of their lifetime. In 2018, an estimated 266,120 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S, along with 63,960 new cases of non-invasive (in situ) breast cancer.
On January 12, 2018 I become lucky Number 8. This blog is designed to share my story and journey through the process. Breast cancer used to be a scary word. Now thanks to better medical technology, amazing treatments are available and this has reduced the number of deaths from breast cancer by 30% to 40% among women ages 40 to 70 (I am 52). In the US today, there are more than 2.9 million breast cancer survivors.
I hope you laugh a lot when you read this blog, share it with friends/family, and make sure your next your next mammogram is scheduled. Early detection helped me. I usually do mine around my birthday as a reminder that “I” am worth living for.
I would love to hear your story. This blog was designed to share stories about amazing women. Warriors in their everyday walks of life. You do not have to be a cancer survivor to send me your comments. Are you a woman and did you get out of bed today with the thought of making a difference? I want to hear from you! Please share some of your own experiences here.
